October Workout Total

Beginning of October I decided to make a focus on developing a consistent exercise routine. I have diabetes. And a number of other things. I really need to lose weight. I may have mentioned in a previous post that I really have an issue with motivation. I don’t get motivated by a smaller waist line. I should be motivated by the improvement in my blood sugar totals but I’m not. What has kept me motivated for the past month? I joined a challenge at work. 60 miles in 60 days. Then a couple of weeks ago I found similar challenges on my MapMyWalk app… I have noticed my clothes fitting looser, I haven’t seen a difference in actual weight loss but I know that’s because I’m building muscle and that the weight loss will come. But that’s not what this is about now. It’s about the fun of challenging yourself and meeting it. The weight loss, the smaller waist line, the lowering of the blood sugar, those all the side effects 🙂

So now is where I brag on myself a little bit and show my results for my first month:

Today. I wish I could speed up today. I work for a 911 call center in the DFW area. My week starts on Wednesday and ends on Sunday. I have worked from 3pm to 3am Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Halloween is notoriously busy and I worked the busiest part of what is one of the busiest days of the year in my line of work. I am exhausted. After getting home this morning at 3:40 and not getting to sleep til close to 5, I woke up at 8:45. Why you ask? Because a co worker hired me to photograph her daughter’s 6th birthday party. It was Frozen themed and she hired people to play Elsa and Ana. It was adorable. But now I’m back at work. I’m only working 8 hours today but the week’s activity and lack of sleep is catching up with me. I have a case, 12 pack, of Cherry Dr. Pepper. My elixir of life.

However, you wanna know the bright side. There is a couple actually. One because of the amount of over time I’ve worked this week, I can’t be told to work any more overtime for the rest of my work week. Two, tonight we fall back an hour. Means an extra hour of glorious, wonderful sleep that I get to catch up on. And since it’s finally turned cold here in Texas, I get to sleep under layers of blankets which is my favorite. I always sleep well when it turns cold.

So now I just have to make it to 11pm. I work with some pretty awesome people, they make it entertaining. The last 3 days have flown by, but as it normally happens, the first 8 hour day I work after days of OT seem to go by so much slower than a 12 hour shift. Then I just have to make 8 hours tomorrow. After that my weekend. Oh happy weekend.

Cleansing Conditioner

Being a child of the South, I have always done two showers a day. The heat and humidity in the summer made a shower at night necessary to be able to go to sleep. And I always woke up sticky with sweat and greasy hair, especially as I hit puberty. Even after moving to the Pacific Northwest when in my early teens, I never changed my grooming habits. I never really got how washing your hair twice a day would wreck havoc on it til I started coloring my  hair. By then not washing your hair for a week had become the thing to do. I tried and tried and tried. My hair has always been on the greasy side and very fine. I hated going to bed with it feeling like that. I could never go longer than a day and a half. And that was absolutely miserable. It was until a few weeks ago when I was talking to a co-worker about how I couldn’t keep my hair color for longer than a couple of weeks because of this that she told me about a “co wash”. I never heard of a cleansing conditioner. Doing some research this seems like it’s best for people for curly or extremely dry hair and I have oily, fine hair. But since my hair was getting really dry by all the shampooing I decided to try a couple that was recommended by reviews for fine hair.

First one I tried was the L’Oreal Paris EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner.  Immediately I could tell a difference in my hair. It was softer and had some texture to it. One issue I had was that I had to wash my hair every other time with shampoo. This conditioner caused my hair to get oily kinda quick. Still a huge improvement over washing it twice a day w/ shampoo.

Second cleansing conditioner I tried was the Pantene Pro-V Color Preserve.  This is the one I’m sticking with. I can go two days without washing my hair with shampoo before it gets too oily. Also I have noticed my color is lasting a lot longer, it’s been two weeks and the only gray showing thru is the new growth.

One thing I have noticed with both of these is that you really have to follow the instructions. Work the condition into a low lather before applying it to your hair. Then massage it into your scalp and leave it for a couple of minutes before rinsing. If you don’t, then it just adds the conditioning without the cleansing and it leaves your hair extra oily.

If you’re hair is extra oily or curly, the L’Oreal is probably going to be the best one for you. It’s also about half the size of the Pantene and cost about $7 where the Pantene cost $5.
